Ironic Twist
seeking irony, because sarcasm clashes with my outfit

I tried working from home today, but got very distracted by How Do I Look? so I dragged myself into the office, but I'm the only person here, and I got a lot of work done, so I'm leaving early and going to the gym. So there.
Tomorrow I have to go all the way to Fells Point for what I hope is the final of the bridesmaid shopping excursions. For the love of all that is holy, I can't waste any more of my Saturday afternoons shopping for lilac-colored gowns. Hopefully the Voxtrot show will make me feel better. I will be returning to the Warehouse Next Door for the first time since I saw the Black Keys (or was it Black Eyes? or Black Dice?) there a few years ago. Playing with Voxtrot are The Antiques, a local band I haven't seen yet. I like the song I downloaded from their site today. Here it is:
I can't remember if I've posted any Voxtrot songs yet. I think I might have after the last time I played them at bluestate. If so, here it is for those of you who missed it last time:
If you're looking to make any purchases from Songs i wish i had written, do it this December, when shipping is free. Stock up on Le Sport, The Lovekevins and more.
Wednesday, December 07, 2005 ::: Slate's take on "My Humps." They call it "a song so awful it hurts the mind." Yes, not even irony or camp can rescue this one. And yet it keeps getting stuck in my head. Ouch.

The Hard Tomorrows had to cancel their upcoming DC 9 show because Rishi hurt his hand and can't play the guitar. Get well soon, Rishi!
Kyle took fantastic pictures of Annie performing at Bliss on Friday. I took a fantastic picture of Kyle that he doesn't remember me taking, and I will be nice enough not to link to it. It was one of those nights when you end up not remembering pictures being taken (or how many pint-sized greyhounds you had before dropping one, wisely not going back for another one, and blowing kisses to your favorite bartender after closing out the tab). Unlike Kyle, who made his way up to the front, took pictures and paid attention to things like "stage presence," I spent most of Annie's set dancing like crazy with Jeff, Michael, Ms. Remain Fabulous, Ms. gl*mrocker, David, Mr. Schitzophonic and others while trying to pay some attention to the stage. Performing in front of a screen onto which images of various animals were projected, Annie started out with "Always Too Late," followed by "Chewing Gum" as well as "The Wedding," "Heartbeat" and "Come Together." She came out for an encore with "Crush," an unreleased song she told the audience she wrote when she was 16. I thought she sounded great and looked adorable, and while she didn't move around the stage much, the audience didn't seem to mind -- I've never seen that much dancing at a D.C. show, ever. The dancing continued after Annie's set, when DJs Will Eastman and his guest SAD played all sorts of great dance music from Hard-Fi to Le Sport to New Order to Madonna. Around 1:30, I sobered up and realized how exhausted I was, so we didn't stay until the end, but it was still one of the funnest times in recent memory. Yeah, I just wrote "funnest."
The rest of the weekend involved spending too much money at IKEA while not really buying anything I needed, WRC and ELG's "Play Doctor" party (at which I avoided the Grey's Anatomy greyhounds and drank appletinis instead), watching the Bewitched movie, finishing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and lamely punking out on both Taint (where David was guest DJing), and the Five Four show. The next Five Four show is on Tuesday, December 13 at Iota. I can't make any unrealistic promises on going to Arlington for a show, so hopefully another D.C. show is coming up soon too. It's really been too long since I've seen them play.
Speaking of upcoming shows, Kyle and I will be spinning at DC 9 next week at a show with The Dance Party, Starlight Drive and Olivia Mancini and the Housemates.
And, some super-exciting news: we have a date for the the bluestate one-year anniversary dance party -- January 14. Put it down on your calendar and get ready to dance at the Black Cat.

I wrote a post about Annie and dancing and drinking and stuff, but Blogger ate it. Uggggh. I'm going to re-write it later.
In the meantime, check out this fortune I found in an old fortune cookie:
All truth goes through three steps: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
